Same Person Shouldn't Be Both PM and Party Chief, Says TIB
Transparency International Bangladesh's Recommendation
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has recommended that the same person should not hold the positions of Prime Minister and party chief.
TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman made the recommendation at a press conference in Dhaka on Sunday.
Reasons for the Recommendation
TIB believes that separating the two roles would help to reduce corruption and promote good governance.
The organization argues that when the same person holds both positions, it creates a conflict of interest.
This conflict of interest can lead to the Prime Minister making decisions that benefit their party rather than the country as a whole.
TIB's Other Recommendations
In addition to recommending that the same person should not hold the positions of Prime Minister and party chief, TIB also made several other recommendations.
These recommendations include:
- Strengthening the independence of the judiciary
- Increasing transparency and accountability in government
- Reducing corruption in the public sector
Conclusion
TIB's recommendations are aimed at improving governance and reducing corruption in Bangladesh.
The organization believes that separating the roles of Prime Minister and party chief would be a significant step towards achieving these goals.
