The Edmonton Oilers have punched their ticket to the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a dramatic 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 on Monday night. After trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Oilers exploded for three goals in the second period. Leon Draisaitl scored twice, while Connor McDavid added another to give Edmonton a 3-1 lead heading into the third period. The Oilers added two more goals in the third period to seal the victory. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored on a power play, and Zach Hyman added an empty-netter to secure the win. Mike Smith made 33 saves in net for the Oilers, while Thatcher Demko stopped 26 shots for the Canucks. The Oilers will now face the Colorado Avalanche in the second round of the playoffs. Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Denver.
