Since its inception in 1921, Alabama has made an extraordinary mark on the Miss America pageant. Over the past century, a remarkable number of young women from the Yellowhammer State have held the coveted title of Miss Alabama, with three of them going on to achieve the ultimate accolade – Miss America.
Illustrious Miss Amerikas
The three Alabamians who have worn the Miss America crown are: Deidre Downs (2005), Heather Whitestone (1995), and - the first deaf woman to win the pageant.
Top Performers
Alabama has consistently performed at the highest levels of the Miss America pageant, with 21 top-five finalists and 46 top-15 semi-finalists. This impressive record is a testament to the talent, intelligence, and grace of Alabama's representatives.
Recent Successes
In recent years, Alabama has continued to shine on the Miss America stage. In 2023, Sophie Burzynski placed in the Top 20, and Lauren Bradford was crowned Miss Alabama 2021. The current Miss Alabama USA is Diane Westhoven of Vestavia.
